CHAPTER 52
It’s just a month to the election and a gubernatorial debate was organized for the candidates. Andy Silva and two other candidates; Pius Ogbana and Monday Udokeh, were fully ready for the debate.
After the candidates finished giving answers to the host's questions, three of the press representatives were given the opportunity to ask one question each.
After two prominent newspaper journalists were given the opportunity to ask their question each, one local newspaper journalist was also allowed one question before the end of the program....)
JOURNALIST : evening sirs, I'm Jinto Fahaz, from the evening news and my questions goes thus: we all know that most of our politicians are corrupt these days and because of that, they tend to cover up for each other. Sirs, the three of you have been in one prominent position or the other in this country. Perhaps, before the election comes up, you find an incriminating evidence against your opponent what will you do?
(The Host was surprised with the kind of question that was asked, he wanted to cancel it but the audience started shouting at him so he allowed the candidates answer. Pius Ogbana answers first...)
PUIS : simple, he has to pay for what he did, I can't possibly condone such an act because my loyalty is to the people not to my fellow opponent. Thank you....
(He was applauded)
MONDAY : anyone who is not faithful with a little cannot be faithful with a bigger responsibility. He will definitely be brought to justice. Thank you....
(He was applauded)
ANDY : (chuckles)...as for me, I will not only make sure everyone gets to know what a criminal he is, but I will also bring such a person to justice. Because he will only use the gubernatorial seat for his selfish and unreasonable accomplishments. Thank you....
(He was applauded)
The program ended afterwards and they all go back to their respective homes.
Andy got back to the house very tired, his wife served him his dinner and he went to bed immediately.
He was about dozing off when his phone started ringing. At first he wanted to ignore the call, but nowadays, his campaign made him loosen up a little as he now receives calls from numbers that are not registered on his phone, claiming to be closer to the people....)
ANDY : who is it at this time...(Looking at the anonymous number)....hello?
CALLER : hello Andy Silva...
ANDY : (wondering the kind of guts the caller has to have called him without any form of respect)...who is this?
CALLER : an old friend...
ANDY : an old friend...is that your name?
CALLER : don't worry, very soon you'll find out what my name is.
ANDY : look, what do you want? I don't have time for jokes this night.
CALLER : actually, I wanted to commend you for a job well done tonight...the last question you answered was done very, very well.
ANDY : who the hell is this?
CALLER : anyway, I have something that will catch your interest...I'll send something to your house in Lagos and by 3pm tomorrow, I'll give you a call.
ANDY : (hisses)..you must be a jobless fool!...(Hangs up)...just when I needed my sound sleep...
(He ignores his caller's words and sleeps off.)
(Meanwhile, Silvia was in her room getting ready to sleep, when she received a phone call from Andrew...)
SILVIA : how are you son?
CALLER : fine Mum...I've been trying to call you since morning but your phone was off, what happened?
SILVIA : oh your father had his gubernatorial debate today, so I couldn't really have time for my phone.
CALLER : oh...how did it go?
SILVIA : very well son...how are you?
CALLER : I'm fine Mum...
SILVIA : that's good to hear.
CALLER : Mum my visa will soon expire.
SILVIA : oh really?
CALLER : yes Mum. In less than a month. I was reminded at the airport when I was returning from Nigeria on monday.
SILVIA : okay. But I don't think your Dad will have time to do that now. May be you should just wait till after the election.
CALLER : when is it?
SILVIA : in less than a month. You may not even need to stay there anymore.
CALLER : really Mum?
SILVIA : of course. You'll be the governor's son by then.
CALLER : that will be great!
SILVIA : don't worry, I'll tell your Dad about your visa all the same.
CALLER : okay Mum! What of Joan?
SILVIA : she's good. She came back for the debate.
CALLER : I wish I was there too.
SILVIA : it’s okay son, I understand.
CALLER : alright Mum. Got to go now....
(At around 9a.m the following day while taking breakfast, Andy received another call from his security men in Lagos....)
ANDY : yes Zubar?
CALLER : sir, there's a package here for you.
ANDY : a package? What is it?
CALLER : it’s in an envelope sir.
ANDY : envelope? Like a letter or what?
CALLER : no sir. I think there's something else there.
ANDY : who sent it?
CALLER : they wrote "from Teluwo" on it.
ANDY : (shocked)…Telu-what!
CALLER : Teluwo sir…and they said its urgent…
ANDY : ...Teluwo....em....hold on to it.
CALLER : yes sir.
ANDY : make sure nobody collects it from you neither must it be tampered with. I'll be in Lagos in a few hours.
CALLER : okay sir.
ANDY : (hangs up)....damn it...how come I forgot about that bastard?....just because I've not heard from him for more than two years now, I totally forgot about him....now he wants to get back at me....I must not take chances with this election that's coming up....I have to do something....and fast....(Thinking of what do to)
Kurt has been coming to check on Ladi, taking him out for pizza and buying him things while ignoring Lara.
This did not go down well with her and she kept thinking of what to do, she decided to put a call through to Ken...)
LARA : hello Ken?
RECEIVER : sup Babe?
LARA : hey what are you doing about what I discussed with you?
