CHAPTER 45 A
(It’s around 1pm at the Silva's residence, Silvia was at home in her room applying some make up, when Andrew called her up....)
SILVIA : (happy to see her son’s call)… how are you son?
CALLER : fine Mum...how's Dad's campaign going?
SILVIA : not bad. And you, how are you?
CALLER : very well...except that I really miss you guys.
SILVIA : but we saw last summer, didn't we?
CALLER : Mum I miss the whole place...
SILVIA : don't worry, it will soon be over.
CALLER : Mum...
SILVIA : yes.
CALLER : can't I come over for just three days? There's an event I really want to attend.
SILVIA : what event is that?
CALLER : em.... it’s a friend of mine. He's getting married next week..... I promise to just spend 2-3 days tops.
SILVIA : who is the person?
CALLER : you don't know him. He's someone I met here and he wants me to be his best-man.
SILVIA : oh...
CALLER : please Mum, let me... I've always been refusing to come to Nigeria and I don't want all my friends to suspect there's something behind it....We'll just keep it from Dad, Mum, please.....
SILVIA : hmm....you're right, your friends may suspect there’s a reason why you’re not coming...(takes a deep breath)....promise it’s not going to be more than 3 days?
CALLER : yes just three days. I won't even come home, I'll stay in a hotel.
SILVIA : ...okay....
CALLER : thanks so much Mum! But I'll need some cash.
SILVIA : what!...what of the $10, 000 I sent you last month?
CALLER : $10,000? Just ten Mum, come on I had to shop for winter...
SILVIA : hmm....so you've finished it?
CALLER : but of course.
SILVIA : look, you have to cut your spending because your father's campaign is taking a lot from us. We can't afford to spend too much till he is elected.
CALLER : don't worry Mum, Dad will surely be elected.
SILVIA : Amen!
CALLER : you don't even need to say Amen because that's the fact.
SILVIA : (laughs)...okay
CALLER : don't worry you'll be the next first lady of our state...
SILVIA : yes dear I can't wait....
(Bukola had just finished sorting out some issues at the court, she decided to visit Bibi at her office after confirming her presence. As she entered into her office, she was surprised to see Bibi wearing a short fitted wine colored, backless gown with a black, six inches high-heeled shoe...)
BUKOLA : wow Bibi....you're looking so good...is this how you dress to the office, with this your kind of work...(Looking at her)
BIBI : nah, there's a reason for it...
BUKOLA : okay....(Taking her seat)
BIBI : it’s so good to see you after so long! What's been happening to you?
BUKOLA : nothing much, just the normal thing....so tell me, who is this our anonymous sponsor?
BIBI : (takes a deep breath)....Babe, the person doesn't want to be known o.
BUKOLA : how do you mean? Are you saying you can't tell me?
BIBI : of course I can, why not?
BUKOLA : then why don't you want to?
BIBI : because even I don't know who the person is.
BUKOLA : (surprised, she sits up)...haha.....are you serious or you're joking with me?
BIBI : I am dead serious...
BUKOLA : (extremely confused)...then how...
BIBI : (noticing her confusion, she cuts in)...look, it was his employee that called me.
BUKOLA : wait, you mean he wasn't the one that called you directly?
BIBI : no. It was his employee, one Mr. Kola like that.... That's the person that I'm dealing with directly...
BUKOLA : but what's wrong with the guy, why is he so pompous?
BIBI : how are we sure it’s a guy?
BUKOLA : haha....you don't even know if it’s a guy or a girl?
BIBI : but I'm not sure it’s someone I will even know.
BUKOLA : why?
BIBI : because I was told he was transferred from AC after JS3.
BUKOLA : meaning he didn't finish with us?
BIBI : exactly! And you know I was transferred into AC in SS1.
BUKOLA : that's true...but....who can he or she be....? Though I can't really remember all those that left then 'cause it’s been long now.
BIBI : don't worry, we'll get to see him at the party.
BUKOLA : okay.
BIBI : ...but you need to hear this guy's voice....
BUKOLA : I thought you said he didn't call you?
BIBI : no joor, I mean his ....PA or something like that, I guess…
BUKOLA : oh....
BIBI : oh my God, he's got this really sweet American accent that...
BUKOLA : (cuts in)...hey, are you falling for the guy already?
BIBI : I'm sure that won't be so bad. In fact he'll be here any minute....(Walking towards the window to look outside)
BUKOLA : oh...I see...that's the reason for the attractive way of dressing....
BIBI : (laughing, she turns to look at Bukola)...you can say that again, dear...(While they were still talking, her phone rings and she picks it up....)...hello?....yes, send him in...(Hangs up)....guess what.... he's here already...
BUKOLA : (laughing at Bibi as she re-adjusts her dress)....you really mean this thing o...(Becoming so anxious to see the guy that her friend is talking about)
BIBI : I have to....(Then she hears the knock at the door)...come in please...
(Kola who had made an earlier appointment with Bibi walks in seeing the two ladies on seat.
Kola is looking gorgeous with his finely neat haircut. He's about 6 ft 2, with a good body stature.
Kola has always been the kind of man that does not skip his early morning workout, making him the type of guy that would attract a second, third or even a fixated look from most ladies.
He walks in and the sweet smell of his masculine cologne filled Bibi's office immediately....)
KOLA : hello ladies...(Walking in and closing the door behind him)
BIBI : hi....(Looking at the handsome guy who has just entered into her office, she stands up and walk up to him)... Mr. Kola Olafioye, right?
KOLA : at your service ma'am... And I guess you're Bibi Scott?...(extending a handshake)
BIBI : yes...nice to finally meet you, please have your seat....
KOLA : thanks....(Taking his seat)
(As he was about taking his seat, he took note of Bukola’s face…)
BIBI : oh that's my friend Bukola...she's also an OSAAC member.
KOLA : hi....(Extending a handshake to Bukola)
BUKOLA : hi.
KOLA : Kola Olafioye... honoured to meet you....(he feels captivated by the beauty before him)
BUKOLA : Bukola Haastrup, same here.
BIBI : please have a seat...(Going back to her seat)
KOLA : thanks...(Sitting down)
BIBI : what can I offer you?
KOLA : (looking at his wristwatch)...em...I'd prefer we go now 'cause I have another appointment in the next 3 hours.
BIBI : oh okay...(Turns to Bukola)...Bukola I'm sorry we'll have to continue this gist some other time.
KOLA : oh, I'm cutting you ladies short on your discussion or something?
BUKOLA : oh no, it’s okay...
KOLA : (turns to Bukola)...why don't you come with us then?
BUKOLA : (looks at Bibi)...em...no I'll pass.
KOLA : it won't hurt to have a third opinion you know...after all, it’s your thing too...
BUKOLA : nah....whatever Bibi picks is fine...moreover I've not even confirmed my attendance.
KOLA : no, don't tell me you won't honour the occasion with your beauty....
BUKOLA : (laughs)...I'm not that important, believe me...
KOLA : who says?...come on, I'm sure that event won't be complete if someone like you won't be there.
BUKOLA : (now suspecting that the praises may not go down well with Bibi who seem to be more interested in Kola)....I'll do something about it...Mr....
KOLA : (cuts in)...just call me Kola...
BUKOLA : okay....Kola. It was really nice talking with you.... Em....I have an appointment with a client now, I'll see you some other time...(Picking up her bag)
KOLA : hopefully at the event, right?
BUKOLA : possibly....(Standing up to leave)
KOLA : (standing up too)...sorry, what do you do?
BUKOLA : I'm a lawyer.
KOLA : oh wow....cool. I should get your contact in case I have some law suit or something?
BUKOLA : (feeling uncomfortable as Kola is not letting go)....don't worry, I'll sure give you when we see at the event.
KOLA : that means you're coming.... Good!....I'm expectant...
BUKOLA : alright...(Turns to Bibi)...I'll be on my way now. We'll talk on phone.
BIBI : alright...
BUKOLA : bye....(Leaving Bibi's office)
KOLA : bye...
(After Bukola left...)
BIBI : I can see you've got a good sense of humour...
KOLA : oh really...(Turns to Bibi)...
BIBI : haven't you been told?
KOLA : (chuckles)...well a couple of times...so can we leave now?
BIBI : yes....(Picking up her bag and her phones)....are we going in your car or...
KOLA : (cuts in)...yes please. I'll drop you back here afterwards.
BIBI : alright.
Few days later...
(Nike has just finished cooking Dinner when she received a phone call from her daughter....)
NIKE : my dear when are you people getting here?
CALLER : day after tomorrow Mum.
NIKE : how's Ladi?
CALLER : he's such a big boy now...
NIKE : I can't wait to see him....from the last picture you sent, I can see that Kurt is really taking good care of you two.
CALLER : Mum, you should see him with Kurt, you'll think he's his biological father.
NIKE : really?
CALLER : yes. In fact they are just like one. Ladi can't do without him.
NIKE : hmm mm....that's good.
CALLER : I tell you Mum.
NIKE : hmm....that's a good sign o. A very good sign....(Pauses and then continues)....Toyin?
CALLER : Yes Mum?
NIKE : what is your relationship with him like?
CALLER : just the same o.
NIKE : have you noticed him with any girl?
CALLER : at all. I've never seen any girl with him.
NIKE : never?
CALLER : never. Even when he was in school, nobody. I even thought it was because he was running two courses at a time.
NIKE : and after school?
CALLER : still no one...
NIKE : hmm....I suspect something.
CALLER : what?
